The cell wall in plants is mainly made of cellulose and provides structural support. The other major components of cell wall are pectins, hemicelluloses, proteins and phenolics.

Cell membranes in all species are composed of a fluid phospholipid bilayer (mainly composed of lipids, proteins and carbohydrates.) and controls what enters the cell and what is excreted from the cell.
