The main difference between "inflation and deflation" is that inflation refers to drop in the power of purchasing due to excessive rise in prices. Whereas deinflation is the "opposite" of it.  

Explanation:

Inflation to a certain level is good for the economy but if it accelerates beyond that then it is referred to as hyperinflation. It is one of the worst indicators of an economy. Deflation less or more- either way is not a good indicator for economy of any nation.
