Spontaneous means that a reaction will proceed to completion (produce products) on its own. However, the time it takes for this to happen may range from a matter of seconds to a matter of decades. The reaction just has to happen on its own to be considered spontaneous. An example of a spontaneous reaction that is slow could be the rusting of a nail in water. Over a matter of years, the nail will eventually corrode if exposed to rain water for long periods of time.An instantaneous process is obviously a process which occurs right away, virtually instantly. Something like this in my opinion could be exploding dynamite. You need to lite the dynamite before the explosion occurs, which is extremely quick, but this isn't spontaneous because you have to lite it. It won't explode on its own.
