What is the difference between ionic and covalent bonds and how are these bonds formed?

Ionic bonds are formed by the donation & receiving of an ekectron while covalent bonds are formed when the elements share there valence electrons to complete their octet.
for ex of I.b is NaCl,MgCl etc &
C.b is H2,O2,CO2 etc.
