What is the difference between Jamais vu and Déjà vu?

\huge{\mathtt{\purple{A}\green{N}\pink{S}\blue{W}\purple{E}\red{R}}}

  • Déjà vu' is the phenomenon of having the strong sensation that an event or experience currently being experienced has already been experienced in the past.

For example, feeling that you've had this conversation before, or that you've been to this place before - but it isn't true, and is an illusion.

  • Jamais vu' is the phenomenon of experiencing a situation that one recognizes in some fashion, but that nonetheless seems very unfamiliar.

For example, if you continue to say the word 'window' again and again, you will eventually feel that it's not a valid word- even though you know it is.

HEY ARMY!!!

Jamais vu is most commonly experienced when a person momentarily does not recognise a word or, less commonly, a person or place, that he or she knows. This can be achieved by anyone by repeatedly writing or saying a specific word out loud.

Often described as the opposite of déjà vu, jamais vu involves a sense of eeriness and the observer's impression of seeing the situation for the first time, despite rationally knowing that they have been in the situation before.

A feeling of having already experienced the present situation is deja vu.
