What is the difference between kernel of an operating system and non-resident portion of an operating system?
Answers
Kernel is known as a core of operating system which can be defined as the interface between the Hardware and Application software and it is responsible for hardware level interactions and it can triggers System Calls to intimate OS. When the computer is running it remains in memory, then it is called a memory resident and other parts of the OS are non-resident. Non-resident defines instruction which remains on a storage medium till they are in need
"The lowest level of operating system is Kernel and it is considered as the important and main factor of the "operating system". Its main purpose is to "translate the command", so the system can understand.
The other part of the "operating system" excluding the kernel is non-resident. Here, it stores the instructions and acts as a storage medium which can retrieved when needed."
