A laser printer is much faster and still cheaper to operate than an inkjet, but cannot create carbon copies and the toner cartridges are expensive even if they last a long time. Functional difference: A dot matrix printer works like a type writer in that it has a ribbon which is struck against the paper by a “hammer”.
