Like terms are the terms that have something in common whereas unlike terms do not have anything in common, for example

7x + 8y+ 65x- 25y -156 +712\\

X is a like term in 7x and 65x just like 8y and -25y are like terms these can subtracted or added same goes for the numbers with no variable like -156 and + 712

To make it easier order them like this and then add or subtract

7x+65x-25y+8y-156+712

hence can be simplified to:-

72x -17y+868
