There is a basic difference, because mass is the actual amount of material contained in a body and is measured in kg, gm, etc. Whereas weight is the force exerted by the gravity on that object mg. Note that mass is independent of everything but weight is different on the earth, moon, etc........

MASS

1) Mass is the quantity of matter contained in the body .

2) Mass is a scalar quantity .

3) Mass of a body is same everywhere .

4) Mass is measured by common balance .

5) SI unit of mass is Kg .

6) Mass of a body is never zero .

WEIGHT

1) Weight is the force with which body is attracted by centre of the earth .

2) Weight is a vector quantity .

3) Weight of a body is different at different places .

4) Weight is measured by spring balance .

5) SI unit of weight is Newton .

6) Weight of the body at the centre of earth is zero .
