What is the difference between Meiosis and Mitosis?​

Meiosis is a reductional division in which the chromosome number is reduced from 2n to n.It occurs in germ cells

While mitosis is retational division which retains the ploidy number.It occurs in somatic cells.

MITOSIS :

1.In mitosis the chromosomes no. does not change . Diploid cells remain diploid , without change.

2. One cell gives rise to two daughter cells in mitosis.

3. Prophase og mitosis is not lengthy.

4. Mitosis is essential for growth nd development .

MEIOSIS :

1. In meiosis , the chromosome no. is reduced to half. The diploid cells became haploid.

2. One cell gives rise to 4 daughter cells in meiosis.

3. Meiosis I is very lengthy.

4. Meiosis is essential for formation of gametes in sexual reproduction.
