These are chemical substances made up of only one type of atom,i.e. they have a characteristic number of electrons and protons.Both Hydrogen(H) and oxygen(O) are two different elements.

2. Compounds:

These are chemical substances where the atoms atoms of two different elements are combined together.Its properties are chemically different from the elements it is made up from.Hydrogen(H) and Oxygen(O) are both naturally gases,but they react to form water(H2O),which is liquid compound.

3. Mixtures:

This is a term we are very familiar with in the kitchen or hospital. A mixture is made of atleast two parts:solid,liquid or gas. The difference is that it's not a chemical substance that's bonded by other elements. They can be easily reversed through precipitation or drying. When you mix and stir sugar in tea, the sugar dissolves into the tea. This can be reversed by heating up the tea till nothing is left besides the sugar you originally dissolved.
