The molecule of an element is the smallest particle of an element of a compound that is capable of independent existence. It shows all the properties of that substance while a compound is a pure substance composed of two or more elements, combined chemically in fixed proportions by mass. The properties of the compound are different from the properties of its constituent elements.

Hope this helps you.
