MS Office is proprietary software , meaning that Microsoft own the source code (the stuff programmers write) and do not reveal it. This means also that they can and do charge money for it. LibreOffice is free software, meaning that the source code is open for anyone to read, copy or adapt (“free as in speech”). It also means that you can download it without paying (“free as in beer”).
2. In terms of functionality, they do more-or-less the same things. MS Office has a few features LibreOffice lacks and vice versa but 90% of users will not notice them.
3. The user experience is a little different , with LibreOffice looking and behaving more like the MS Office of yesteryear, with a traditional menus+toolbars UI. Personally I prefer this, but it’s entirely a matter of taste.
4. “MS Office” is marginally easier to pronounce .
