A naxal or naxalite is a member of any of the communist guerrilla groups in india mostly associated with the communist party of india maoist. Naxalism is a form of maoism which in turn is a form of left wing extremism. The difference is purely of nomenclature. Naxalism originated in the naxalbari district of bengal.
