the Republic of Ireland as it is officially named – is now a completely separate country and has no longer any formal bond to the UK. Northern Ireland, on the other hand, is still a part of the UK (the United Kingdom of Great Britain andNorthern Ireland), together with England, Scotland and Wales.

Answer: Northern Ireland is not independent and is part of the UK

Explanation: Basically, back in the time of the Ulster Plantation, King James of England put English in Northern Ireland after taking the land from Ireland. Then, when all England, Scotland and Wales joined together, Northern Ireland joined to become part of the United Kingdom (UK). Also, Northern Ireland uses the Pound Sterling currency and the Republic of Ireland uses the Euro. They are treated officially as different countries and the Republic of Ireland is independent while Northern Ireland is not and is ruled by England.
