Both fission and fusion are nuclearreactions that produce energy, but the applications are not the same. Fissionis the splitting of a heavy, unstable nucleus into two lighter nuclei, andfusion is the process where two light nuclei combine together releasing vast amounts of energy.

Nuclear Fission ⇒ Nuclear Fission is a process in which a heavy nucleus , after capturing a neutron ,splits up into two lighter nuclei of comparable masses . In the fission of a heavy nucleus into two lighter nuclei of intermediate masses is bound to release a large amount of energy.
