What is the difference between pathogen and vector?
Answers
A pathogen is a disease-causing organism, where as a vector is a biological vehicle which aids in disease transmission. For example in the case of malaria, the pathogen is the Plasmodium sp. and the vector is the mosquito. When a mosquito carrying malaria, bites the person, it first injects an anticoagulant, which is produced in the salivary glands of the mosquito. The plasmodium is carried in the salivary glands and thus enters the blood stream of the human host, as the anti-coagulant is injected.
