What is the difference between plasma membrane and cell wall ? Give Function of each.

Plasma Membrane-
1. It is consisted of proteins and lipids.It is living.
2. It is found in both plant and animal cells.
3. It is semi-permeable.
4. It is soft and elastic.
5. Function:- Allows only selected materials to move in and out of cell.

Cell Wall-
1. It is made up of complex carbohydrate called cellulose. It is dead or non-living.
2. It is found in plant cells only.
3. It is permeable.
4. It is hard and rigid.
5. Function:- Gives rigidity, shape and protection to plant cell.

Plasma Membrane is the phospholipid layer, found in all types of cells; it helps in protecting the protoplasm and checks the passage of molecules inside the cell.

Cell wall is found in the plant cell, fungi, bacteria only and protects the cell from external shocks, and provide rigidity and shape to the cell.
