Politeness is nice but it's ultimately self serving. You act polite so people don't think you're an asshole. You might notice that, between some friends, politeness is dropped completely, because there,'s no need to convince your friends you' re not an asshole.

Kindness is done with the recipient in mind. You act kind because you actually want to help someone out, and you're not expecting any reward as a result of helping that person. Kindness need not come with politness.
