Potential resources are the sources that have been recognized but are not yet practiced due to the shortage of availability of technology. The administration does not have methods to use them in near prospect, but if required they can be produced and utilized. Uranium found in Ladakh is an instance of potential resources.

Reserves  Resources are the sources which have been recognized and are completely maintained for present and future application. These are resources whose total amount is known. Available technology is utilized to employ these resources. Rich sediments of coal in Rubr area of Germany is an illustration of actual resources.
