Lactic Acid

This is produced in our muscle cells during intense workout due to the lack of oxygen supply because of the contraction of muscles in these areas. The production of lactic acid in our muscle cells causes cramps in the muscles. This is a type of anaerobic respiration.

Ethanol

When pyruvate is broken down in the absence of oxygen, the final products are ethanol, carbon dioxide and energy. This takes place in yeast cells. This is also a type of anaerobic respiration.

The mode of respiration where there is no oxygen used is called as anaerobic respiration. The energy released is less compared to aerobic respiration.
