A redox reaction is a reaction in which oxidation and reduction occurs. If one substance is oxidised other is reduced.

So, reduction reaction is a part of redox reaction in which the substance gain electron.

Redox reaction is a reaction in which electrons are transferred between substances.

Reduction reaction cannot happen alone because if one substance is gaining electron then the elecron must be coming from another substance which is getting oxidised. So, there is always a oxidation reaction along with reduction reaction and they together make redox reaction. Infact, reduction reaction is one half of redox reaction.
