Release is not correctly used with the word pain. Release means to free up something that has been constricted, caged, held back or bound. So you can release tension in tight muscles, and sometimes in emotional work people talk about releasing emotions they have been holding onto such as grief; but you cannot release pain.

Alleviate and relieve are extremely similar words and both are used correctly here. Both mean to reduce or take away suffering, so they are perfect for the concept of lessening pain.

If I had to describe the difference between the two, as a native speaker, I would say that I think of relieve as being slightly more complete than alleviate. An over the counter anti-inflammatory will alleviate pain; opiods will relieve it.
