What is the difference between the Indian and USA healthcare systems?

Indian doctor’s office scenario:

A sick patient walks in to see a doctor

Waits 10–30 minutes

Doctor examines patient, history of diseases, familial medical background, allergies, environmental factors and prescribes medicine.

Patient pays fees, less than Rs.1000 per visit.

Patient purchases medicine

If specialist’s opinion is required, patient visits the specialist in less than a week, continues treatment and is eventually cured.

X-rays, pathology labs (blood tests), opthalomologist, dentists are affordable (approximately Rs.1000).

USA/ Canada doctor’s office scenario:

Sick patient at a walk-in clinic waits 1–3 hours with or without appointment. (How can anyone make an appointment or predict sickness?)

Patient has to produce insurance card/ details. Without insurance, you pay $50 or more per visit

Doctors examines the patient in detail and makes notes on a computer

Patient purchases medicine using insurance. Without insurance, you have to spend some quality time in the pharmacy and spend more $$$.

If specialist is required, patient makes an appointment by calling the specialist. Waits anywhere between 5 weeks to 2 months, continues ailment, after the short waiting period visits specialist. Specialist registration fees are $200 CAD, and per visit $80 CAD. Voila!

In situations where walk-in and specialists can’t help, it is treated as an emergency. Patient without insurance coughs up $2000 for even half a day at the hospital.

Blood tests (50 CAD and above) or 1000USD+ as this news article shows , X-rays ($120 CAD and above) without insurance
