Save as means to give the file a particular path to be saved. Save means to simply save the file for future reference.
For eg : i want to convert a .doc file into a ppt file, i'll need to assign a path to the file.

Hey, It says that what extension is the file to be saved. For eg i have a .doc file and i feel my desire to let it open it with another program so i'll need to specify the path where the program can be executed. In simple words it needs to go like this - .doc file into a wordpad file .txt. In most cases a file corruption may lead to registry damage of the system.

SAVE is used to save your work which is newly created by you.
SAVE AS is used to save your work as a file with a different name.
For example: You might choose to save a document called "Paper - rev. 3" as "Paper - rev. 4". This way, you can save you file at different stages and keep multiple versions on your hard drive
Hope it helps
