The main difference between scalar and vector quantity is the scalar quatity have only magnitude but no direction where as vector quantity have both magnitude and direction.

Scalar quantities : The physical quantities which require only magnitude to describe them are called scalar quantities or simple scalars .
Ex : length , time , mass etc .
Vector quantities : The physical quantities which require both magnitude and direction to describe them and which obey the laws of vector addition are called vector quantities (or) simple vectors .
Ex : displacement , velocity , acceleration etc .
