Sigma bond...occurs by head on overlapping along internuclear axis...first bond formed is Sigma ...extent of overlapping is high..it has free rotation
Pi bond...occurs by sidewise overlapping ...atomic orbitals must be parallel to each other...after first Sigma bond..all others are pi bond...extent of overlapping is less..it@s rotation is restricted.
