DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SIMPLE MAJORITY SPECIAL MAJORITY

Let's understand this with example -

1.Simple Majority - It is more than 50% of members present and voting

Lok Sabha Strength is 545 - Vacant seats 5

Total left - 540

Now there are some members who are no t voting say 100

So Members who will vote = 540–100 = 440

More than 50% is - 221

It is also called as Working Majority.

2. Absolute Majority - It is more than 50% of total strength of house.

Ex. - Lok sabha Strength - 545

So Absolute majority is 273
