what is the difference between small farmers and marginal farmers? please answer it in detail.

Marginal Farmer' means a farmer cultivating (as owner or tenant or share cropper) agricultural land up to 1 hectare (2.5 acres). 'Small Farmer' means a farmer cultivating (as owner or tenant or share cropper) agricultural land of more than 1 hectare and up to 2 hectares (5 acres).

They cultivate 26% whereas they cover 14% of the land.

They cultivate majorly for the purpose of self consumption.

Marginal farmers:

Marginal farmers have a big piece of land but they carry out cultivation only for the purpose of sale.

The no. of marginal farmers has decreased in Tamil Nadu but increasing in India.
