some , a little are use to express quantity , to say or ask if you have a quantity of something or not..

SOME:- Some may be an indefinite numeral pronoun or adjective It may indicate a number..This may also indicate quantity.

EX:Some are born great. (Indefinite Numeral Pronoun)

Some idiot must have done it(Indefinite Numeral Adjective )

Please put some more sugar. (Indicate quantity )

A LITTLE:- A little means some, but not much.It also has positive meaning.

EX:- He has a little sense.

There is still a little water left in the tank.
