What is the difference between substance and material?It would be better if you answer simply.

"The materials used were paper and pencils."

Substance is just a "thing" rather than something being used. It is commonly used to describe texture.)

"It was made with a weak substance."

You would not say "the substances used were paper and pencils."

Rather, you would use the word substance for something like "the paper had a sticky substance on the back."
