Since 1962, India has commemorated Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan's birthday on September 5 as Teachers Day whereas Gurupurnima occurs on the day of the full moon, or Purnima, in the Shaka Samvat's Ashadh month (June–July) (Gregorian calendar).

  • Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan's birthday is regarded as a teacher's day in India.
  • "The Ethics of the Vedanta and its Metaphysical Presuppositions" was the title of his master's thesis. Radhakrishnan received praise from his philosophy professor, Dr Alfred George Hogg, for his outstanding work. When Radhakrishnan was barely 20 years old, his thesis was published. These are some of the reasons why he was honoured as a teacher.
  • All of India's spiritual traditions commemorate Gurupurnima, a festival that predates civilization itself. On this day, Indians from all walks of life—from music to dance, academia to sports, etc.—celebrate by giving thanks to their professors and commemorating their predecessors.
