what is the difference between the nuclear energy released from an atomic bomb and a nuclear reactor? Or is there a difference at all?

There is not much difference.
Atomic energy release because collision of atoms.

And in nuclear reaction it is between low nucleus and the high nucleus. Also know as Fission.
