Brahmadeya (Sanskrit for "given to Brahmana") was tax free land gift either in form of single plot or whole villages donated to Brahmanas in the early medieval India. Brahmadeya was devised by the Brahmanical texts as the surest mean to achieve merit and destroy sin.

Devdana means a gift(dana) to the gods(dev). Most of the Devdana lands were made tax free. The donated land mainly belonged to the temple which employed peasants to cultivate the lands and take the produced crops after making payment to the peasants.
