what is the difference between the wildcards " ? " " and " * "?

Answer:

A wildcard is simply a pattern matching system whilst regular expressions are a language unto themselves. Whilst a wildcard character of * simply means 'anything' so saying text. * means anything starting with text. then followed by anything.
