understood” is a compact form of saying “did you understand..?”
It is heavily used in scenarios where it is said to provoke or prompt an affirmative response from the receiving end of the conversation.
As if you’re asking the other side of the conversation: ”Did you just understand what I’ve just explained?”
Person A: “So, that’s how you cook spaghetti. Stick to the ingredient ratios given by the recipe itself, understood? ”
Person B: “Yeah, I can cook it now by myself.”

we use the word understand in present tense while understood is used in past one...
