what is the difference between valence band and conduction band.?

in valence band there are valence electrons,this band may be partially filled or completely filled.the electrons in this  band do not contribute to electrical current. In conduction band,it is either empty or partially filled..here the electrons are responsible for electric current.

The energy band formed due to the valence orbitals is called Valence band & that formed due to unoccupied orbital is called Conduction band.
