Vertical rays travel over a shorter distance and thus lose less heat. They are mostly concentrated on a smaller area. On the other hand, slanting rays travel over a larger distance as a result of which they lose more heat. Also, they spread out over a larger area.

The following are the differences between the vertical and slanting rays:
1. Sun's vertical rays fall within its movement zone, whereas, slanting rays falls on the temperate and polar regions.
2. Since the vertical rays of the sun cover a direct and short distance, they remain extensively hot. Whereas, the slanting rays cover a wide distance in a sloping manner thus they are not very hot.
