The main difference between oviparous and viviparous animals is that oviparous animals do not undergo any embryonic development inside the mother whereas viviparous animals develop into a young animal inside the mother. This means oviparous animals lay eggs.

\implies Depending upon how the young ones of offspring are produced, animals may be grouped as under:

Oviparous:- All egg-laying animals are called oviparous animals, for example, lizards, frogs, fishes, snakes, hens, etc. The eggs are hatched by the mother (body warmth) or by the sun's warmth naturally. This is called incubation.

Birds are also oviparous as they lay eggs. Soon after fertilization, the zygote divides repeatedly. As it travels down the oviduct, many protective layers form around it. Once the hard shell forms around the developing embryo, the bird finally lays the eggs. The embryo take about 3 weeks to develop into a young one. Birds sit on the egg to provide them sufficient warmth. After the young one is completely developed, it breaks the shell and comes out.

Viviparous:- All animals which give birth to the young ones are called viviparous animals. For example, rats, squirrels, cows, buffaloes, and humans.
