What is the difference between xylem and phloem.​

Xylem:

  1. Xylem transports water and minerals from the roots to aerial parts of the plant.
  2. Xylem occupies the center of the vascular bundle.
  3. Xylem vessels are made up of lignin and Cellulose.
  4. Xylem comprises of fiber, xylem vessels and tracheids.
  5. Xylem helps the plants by giving mechanical strength to the plants.

Phloem:

  1. Phloem transports sugars that are synthesized in the green parts of the plant to the other parts.
  2. Phloem occupies outer side of the vascular bundle.
  3. Phloem is composed of five types of cells.
  4. Phloem comprises of sieve cells, sieve tubes, companion cells, Phloem fibers and phloem parenchyma.
  5. Phloem won't give any mechanical strength to the plants.
