Rutherford's model did not completely reimagine Thomson's. Like Thomson,Rutherford still believed that atomscontained negatively charged electrons. Unlike the plum puddingmodel, where those atoms simply floated in "soup," Rutherford believed they orbited the central nucleus just as planets orbit the sun.

Thomson made the plum pudding model/watermelon model in which electrons were embedded in a positive sphere. According to him electrons were stationary.

Whereas Rutherford did the Alpha scattering experiment of the Cathode Ray tube experiment according to which cathode rays or the negatively charged electrons started moving towards the anode contradicting the thomson stationary electrons.
Hope that helps you ✌️
