what is the difference noticed when a plant buried in soil is covered by plastic sheet under sunlight and stick buried in soil is covered by plastic sheet under sunlight ?

when the plant is buried in soil and covered with plastic cover it secrets water
and a stick will not secret water because xylem and pholem tissue will not work .
