GMT - Greenwich Mean Time

Named after the place Greenwich, England and in use since 1884. It is measured from the Greenwich Meridian Line at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich.

Location of Greenwich
Longitude - 0°0'0"
Latitude - 51°28'38" N (north of equator)

This is the place from where all time zones are measured.

IST - Indian Standard Time

India operates on a single time zone
IST is 5.5 hours ahead of GMT

Eg: If current GMT is 8:43 AM the IST (which is GMT + 5.5) is 2:13 PM
