In poetic art, representation is more than a plain imitation; it is refined to present aspects of life in a special ( aesthetic or poetic) way. The represented aspects are presented as essences, fragments, perspectives, from which the spectator recognises and gains deep insight on aspects of true life.
In the Republic, Plato says that art imitates the objects and events of of ordinary life. In other words, a work of art is a copy of a copy of a Form. it is even more often illusion than is ordinary experience.
