What is the different between an island and a Continent?

Islands are small pieces of land surrounded by water on all sides. It can accomodate a small group of people at one time due to its size. There are many small as well as big islands in the world.

Continents are huge continuous landmasses. It can accomodate a huge number of people, flora and fauna and is separated by physical and political borders. There are 7 continents in the world.
