Just as DVD meant a 5 to 10 times increase in storage capacity compared to CD, Blu-ray Disc will increase DVD capacity by 5 to 10 times.

A standard DVD holds 4.7 gigabytes of data. This is enough to hold one movie. If that movie is longer than two hours, you need two DVDs or a double-layer DVD that can store around 9GB. On the other hand, a double-layer Blu-ray disc can hold a massive 50 GB of data.
