An image and shadow are exclusive and complementary.

An image is formed when light rays (direct or reflected) from an object are captured on a screen or by a mirror.

A shadow is formed when no light rays fall in some area. That is light rays are blocked by an object from falling on the screen.

A shadow is seen only when there is some light around it.

QUESTION

what is the different between shadow and image

ANSWER

  • Image

➡️ The formation of image takes place when the light rays are reflected by an object.

  • Shadow

⬅️ The formation of shadow takes place when the light falls on an opaque object.

  • Image

➡️ We are able to see images when light refraction enters our eyes.

  • Shadow

⬅️In the case of shadow no light enters our eyes.

  • Image

➡️ Image contains colour, structure etc. of the object.

  • Shadow

⬅️Shadow does not give any information about the object as it is colourless.

  • Image

➡️ The size of the image is the same as the size of the object.

  • Shadow

⬅️Shadow is not an optical representation of any object as it is cast by an object intercepting light .

  • Image

➡️ Image is the optical representation of any object.

  • Shadow

⬅️It is mandatory to have a screen to form a shadow.

{\bf{\red{NOTE :}}}When light is obstructed by an opaque object then shadow is formed while the image is the reflection of light rays by any object. Image contains colour while shadow is always colourless.

TO MORE INFORMATION :

Image :-The study of image formation encompasses the radiometric and geometric processes by which 2D images of 3D objects are formed. In the case of digital images, the image formation process also includes analog to digital conversion and sampling

Shadow :- Shadow is nothing but space when the light is blocked by an opaque object. It is just that part where light does not reach. When you stand in the sun, you are able to see your shadow behind you.
