What is the different between sound waves and waves rising in water

The main difference is frequency, sound waves are in kilohertz, water waves are of course much slower. There are other differences, sound is longitudinal compression, but if you track the motion of a particle in a water wave it moves in an elliptic orbit as the wave passes.

For water waves, the disturbance is in the surface of the water, perhaps created by a rock thrown into a pond or by a swimmer splashing the surface repeatedly. For sound waves, the disturbance is a change in air pressure, perhaps created by the oscillating cone inside a speaker.
