Question:- What are the different steps involved in processing fleece to make wood?
Answer:-
A sheep or yak body has a thick coat of hair called " fleece".
The first step involves shearing.
- The process of removing the fleece using special clippers is called shearing.
- Shearing is done manually with a razor or with the help of a shearing machine.
- Shearing does not hurt the sheep because the uppermost layer of the skin which is remove along with fleece is dead.
- The sheared hair is clean and washed in tanks to remove grease, dust and dirt. This is called scouring. Now- a- days scouring is done machines.
- The cleaned hair are sent to a factory where hair of different textures are separated or sorted. This is called sorting.
- Small fluffy fibres called burrs are picked out from the hair. The fibres are scoured again and dried.
- Now the wool is ready to drawn into fibres.
- Next, the hair are sent into a 'carding' machine.
- It combs the loose wool fibres into a sheet.
- This sheet is twisted into a rope or silver. This silver is twisted and stretched into a yarn.
- The yarn is wound to form balls of wool.
- Now the wool is ready to use.
