What is the differnce between basidomycetes and ascomycetes

The main difference lies in the way they produce microscopic spores. Basidiomycetes fungi produce spores that are externally at the end of specialised cells which are called basidia. Whereas in Ascomycetes fungi, the spores are produced internally in a sac called Ascus.
